Author photographer Ellen Thorbecke lived in Lebanon in 1945, working on a project about Beirut that was never published.1Suermondt, Rik, Photolexicon, volume 16, nr. 32 (November 1999) (en) According to his passport, Ismar David spent time in Lebanon and environs in 1945. It might have been Damascus, where he saw a magnificent private collection of antique glass.
